Edison Pearls are a result of one of the newest pearl culturing techniques for Freshwater pearls. Typically freshwater pearls are cultured with only a small 2mm square of tissue from a donor mollusk and 12-14 pearls are cultured per host mollusk. The Edison Pearl is the newest addition to the family of Freshwater pearls. Borrowing techniques from saltwater culturing, only 1 pearl is cultured in each mollusk, placing the tissue in the center of the mollusk flesh rather than between the flesh and the shell. The harvest will yield much larger sized pearls with bright luster and colors such as white, pink, peach, plum, and the more exotic aubergine- purple tones. The intensity of this luster and color provides the most unique pearls in the freshwater pearl family in terms of color, undertone and size. Currently only 3 farms are producing Edison Pearls.
